The Range to take over Homebase store in Cardiff

Expanding furniture to DIY retailer The Range has agreed a deal to open a new store at a soon-to-close Homebase outlet in Cardiff.
Last week Homebase confirmed it was closing its flagship Cardiff store at Culverhouse Cross on March 10.
The unit, which extends to more than 30,000 sq ft, is owned by Kent County Council's pension fund. In a deal between the two retailers, Homebase has assigned its lease on the retail unit, which has a number of years yet to run, to The Range.
The Range has stores across Wales, including those in Llanelli, Bridgend and Swansea. It also has two others stores in Cardiff, at Newport Road and Ty Glas Road.
The retailer has been expanding its business since last year, having announced a new concept of stores in Cornwall. The Range on the Beach, which will have more seasonal opening hours than the larger outlets in the UK, will be tested out for the first time in Cornwall this year in time for the new tourist season. Turnover has increased to more than £750m at The Range.
In addition, three new full-sized stores will be opened in Cornwall over the next two years and 300 new jobs created – in Bude, Newquay and either Bodmin or Camborne. The Range already has stores in Penzance, Truro and St Austell.
"We've opened 20 stores to date this year with three more to come before the end of the year," said The Range founder Chris Dawson late last year.
