Eight riders and two support staff will be tackling 133 miles of twisting roads and mountain passes from Whitehaven to Sunderland over the August Bank Holiday weekend with the aim of raising more than £1000 for The Peter Pan Nursery in Newcastle under Lyme.

The Peter Pan Nursery provides care and education to children with special needs from birth to five years old with a range of disabilities, conditions and syndromes.

The nursery provides day care for two-year old Oscar Povey from Leek who has CHARGE syndrome a rare and complex genetic condition that affects his heart, eyes, hearing and growth. He has a tracheostomy fitted to allow him to breath and is fed through a tube meaning he requires round the clock care from specially trained staff.
Oscar's family are friends with HR director Emma Aust and, last year, she and ride organiser Jon Blake, head of manufacturing, ran the Manchester Marathon in aid of Ronald McDonald House at Alder Hey Children's Hospital who supported Oscar as a baby.

Mr Blake said: "Emma is friends with the family and I got to know them through the fund raising process and the race itself. When deciding who to raise money for by doing the ride, The Peter Pan Nursery which cares for Oscar was first in our thoughts. The nursery do an amazing job in supporting Oscar, his family and hundreds of other children and their families locally with special care needs.

"It provides valuable help and support, and wouldn't be able to continue its great work without outside funding. We hope that as many people as possible can support our challenge by making a small donation to this amazing charity. We don't want our blood, sweat and tears to go to waste!"

Mark Povey, Oscar's dad said: "Oscar has a very rare condition, meaning he needs constant one-to-one attention. Peter Pan Nursery is an incredible place, providing 2 ½ hours a week of top care for Oscar supporting his mental and physical development. Oscar absolutely loves the place and gets so much out of it - and it also gives the family some respite. We really couldn't do without it.
"We're absolutely delighted that the team from Dunlop Pro Décor have chosen to raise money for The Peter Pan Nursery, especially as it wouldn't be able function without the support of fundraisers. Good luck to the team in the challenge - fingers crossed they'll all make it to Sunderland in one piece!"
