Mr Bitmead joins Wyevale Garden Centres as head of store format and design from B&Q. Prior to that role he worked for Homebase where he delivered new store concepts which balanced customer and commercial needs.

He will use his 14 years' experience in the retail sector to enhance Wyevale Garden Centres' format strategy, store design and space planning to improve customer experience.

Mr O'Connor is Wyevale Garden Centres' new head of visual merchandising. He joins from Marks & Spencer, where he was the head of visual merchandising for home and foods.

In this new role Mr O'Connor will focus on creating inspirational product presentation.

Chief executive, Kvein Bradshaw, said of the appointments: "I am delighted to welcome Martin and Patrick, whose industry-leading expertise in store formatting and visual merchandising will help bring the garden to life in our centres and create a fresh and engaging shopping experience for all our customers."

Until last month Wyevale Garden Centres was known as The Garden Centre Group, but the group has undergone a rebranding exercise.
