Essential reading for retailers and suppliers in the home improvement market

Midlands-based flooring firm rated 'One to Watch' by organisation that rates the best companies to work for in the UK

One of the UK’s leading online flooring retailers has been earmarked as ‘One to Watch’ by an organisation that measures the best employers in the country.

UK Flooring Direct employs more than 200 people at its headquarters in Hinckley, Leicestershire, and at its second site in Coventry, West Midlands, selling more than 250 products including wood and laminate flooring to both retail and trade customers via its www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk website.

The company applied to be measured on the Best Companies Index which looks at a range of indicators to determine the best places to work in the UK.

Best Companies carried out an anonymous survey across all departments at UK Flooring Direct – from marketing through to warehouse – questioning a series of factors about the business which included peer relationships, leadership, wellbeing and social connection.

Following that, the company, which recorded annual sales of more than £50 million in 2020 and is on course to treble that by 2022, was assessed and rated as ‘One to Watch’ by the organisation.

Faye Summers, UK Flooring Direct’s Head of HR, said the business was pleased with the outcome and that it would continue to enhance its engagement with the teams.

She said: “To be marked out as One to Watch after our first contact is really encouraging and shows that we are already an employer of choice.

“As the company grows, we continue to strive to ensure that this continues to be a great place to work. The business is expanding at a rapid pace, which has seen many more people brought on board across our, now, two sites in the Midlands and across all of our departments.

“Add to that the challenge of Covid-19 and the fact that we had to set up our office teams to work from home overnight, it has made engaging with our people, and continuing our commitment to being a great employer even more important.

“It is great, therefore, that we have been rated as One to Watch on the Best Companies Index and scored very positively on so many indicators.

“We want people to enjoy coming to work here, to feel like they are part of the UK Flooring Direct family and see that we are a positive contributor to our local area both economically and socially.

“This survey bears out that there is a very positive, engaged feeling among the teams but also gives us a platform to build and continue to improve on in the coming weeks, months and years. It’s an exciting time for the company and great to be part of.”

Jonathan Austin, CEO of the Best Companies Index, said: “Congratulations to UK Flooring Direct on this significant achievement of a 'Ones to Watch' status. This award recognises that they understand the importance of workplace engagement and genuinely value their people. It is a great start to their engagement journey - well done to all involved.”
