Jeff Moody, formerly of Polti and BDC is to join BIRA Direct as managing director designate, while Steve Akers will be promoted to director of buying.
Both appointments will take effect on October 6. Mr Moody's appointment follows on from the announcement of the planned retirement, after 47 years in DIY and Housewares, of current managing director Paul Woolley.

Mr Woolley commented: "Jeff Moody will bring to BIRA all the necessary management and retail skills to ensure the continued growth of BIRA direct. I have previously worked with Jeff when he was instrumental in growing the BDC business substantially as a BIRA direct supplier and I know that he will do an excellent job."

Commenting on the promotion of Steve Akers from buyer to director of buying at BIRA Direct, Mr Woolley added: "Steve joined BIRA direct as buyer in 2010, and his promotion is a just reward for the hard work he has contributed in helping both suppliers and retail members grow and develop their businesses in that time. His experience and knowledge will be invaluable in the future as BIRA direct looks to build on a very positive 2014."
