Bank Holiday sparks DIY surge

Published: 22 August 2025 - DIY Week

With the final Bank Holiday of summer approaching, millions of Brits are expected to turn their attention to DIY jobs before autumn sets in. But new research from UK Radiators has found that 67% of homeowners aged 25–40 don’t know how to bleed their radiator, instead relying on family members for help with the simple but essential task.

Bleeding a radiator – a five-minute job requiring only a radiator key – improves heating efficiency, reduces energy waste, and prevents noisy pipes. Yet the survey highlights a growing “DIY confidence gap” among younger homeowners.

UK Radiators’ heating specialists share the golden rules every homeowner should know:

A spokesperson for UK Radiators said: “Bleeding your radiator is one of the easiest ways to cut heating costs and keep your home comfortable, yet our research shows many younger homeowners are still shying away from it. The Bank Holiday is the perfect time to get confident with these small but vital jobs before the colder months arrive.”
