Home Hardware Scotland warehouse operative Stuart Elrick has just finished a complete restyle of his custom car, a 1954 plate Chevy, taking him eight years of hard work.
Mr Elrick has long been a custom car enthusiast, having already restored a Morris Marina, Volkswagen Beatle and Vauxhall Cresta, and bought the Chevy in 2001 in its original condition. He fitted a V8
engine, lowered the suspension and painted it Satin Green with a silver roof.

Then in 2007 he decided to give it a complete makeover in the traditional 1950s custom car style. Even though a mechanic by trade, he also had to teach himself how to weld, paint and upholster to achieve the classic look he was after.

To make the car look smoother and sleeker, he changed it from a four-door to a two-door and lowered the roofline. He upholstered the
seats and door panels in silver and black leather and painted the car Ford Jade Green Metallic.

Mr Elrick did all this from his garage, not much bigger than the
Chevy, and could only work on the car at weekends and in the evenings.

Mr Elrick and wife Tina now plan to take the Chevy to classic and custom car shows throughout the UK.
