Each of Squire’s sixteen garden centres across the South East has been engaged in friendly competition designing a garden that showcases why they love gardening. The garden had to be small, easy to create and maintain, and something that customers could replicate in their own gardens at home.

Squire’s in Stanmore won “Best Showcasing of I Love Gardening”. They highlighted their love of edible gardening with a delightful, mouthwatering concoction of fruit and vegetables, including an apple tree, various herbs, tomatoes, beans, lettuce and strawberries. Just for fun there was even a wicker hatch chicken coup with some eggs and chickens (not real ones!) in it.

Squire’s in Woking won “Best Focal Point” for their fun, colourful and educational garden, which was all about encouraging children to get into gardening and get off their iPads! The focal point was ‘Chloe The Caterpillar’ who was built from crates and plant saucers. The garden also contained a quiz on flip cards to teach children about insects, ideas for the imagination such as a ‘create your own fairy garden’ area using broken pots and Antirrhinum snap dragons, and plants for the senses including mint and curry plant for smell, Stachys lambs ear for touch, and geraniums for vibrant colour.

Squire’s Chairman Sarah Squire, commented: “All of our centres created amazing gardens, but the two that really stood out were the gardens at Squire’s in Stanmore and Woking. The teams had put such thought, enthusiasm and effort into their designs. We have received lots of great comments from customers who have really enjoyed seeing their creations.”
