Partnership to open new garden centre in County Durham

Published: 9 July 2007
A garden centre partnership is to run a new retail outlet on the site of Lintzford Bridge Nurseries, County Durham.
Former manager at Heighley Gate Garden Centre in Morpeth, Gerard Humble is to operate the site - Lintzford Bridge Garden Centre in Derwentside - which sits in six and a half acres of spectacular countryside.

According to the Newcastle Journal, developer George Vasey - owner of the site for 10 years - spent seven years trying to win planning approval for Lintzford Bridge because its proximity to the River Derwent, and is an area of natural beauty.

The centre has been built from logs and cedarwood to help it merge into the surrounding landscape. It recycles water from a lake and meadow areas.

In April, Mr Humble, together with two friends, set up an online gardening website to sell local suppliers' products nationwide.
