New home management site launched to UK market

Launched this week, Hoppy.co.uk is set up to provide consumers with a ‘one stop shop’ concept, aiming to simplify running a home.

Founded as an independent company this year, Hoppy was created in EDF Energy’s innovation accelerator, Blue Lab. The company says it saw a gap in the market and plans to meet customer demand for a comprehensive home management tool.

According to research commissioned by the company, Brits spend an average of 10 hours a week on household tasks and 68% have up to 20 DIY tasks to complete in their home. As a result, a large proportion of those surveyed said the task of managing a household – and all the admin and maintenance that brings – is causing them stress. In fact, 36% of British workers said they find running their home as or more stressful than their day jobs. In addition,

Hoppy’s solution for this, it says, is to bring together a range of home-related services and digital tools under one roof. The site encompasses switching services, a tradesperson booking portal, an online community and a home management digital logbook.

Following what the firm describes as “a successful test period and positive customer response”, Hoppy is now being launched nationwide.

Hoppy managing partner Richard Longmore explained: “Hoppy originated in response to consumers looking for digital services to make their lives easier – in particular, to better manage their homes. We saw a gap in the market for a platform that brings a number of home-related services together. Customers and service are at the core of the business; Hoppy aims to make running households easy and efficient, simplifying the lives of our customers by taking care of the household bills and general home maintenance that often become a chore.”

The tradesperson booking porta will provide access to over 1,800 nationwide trusted and vetted tradespeople to help out with any job around the home. The Hoppy team has also developed a community area of the site to allow homeowners and renters to share advice and tips on everyday niggles and issues in the home.

The survey also revealed the top five things that keep Brits awake at night when it comes to running their homes:

  1. House being untidy (36%)
  2. Lack of storage space (30%)
  3. Affording the bills (22%)
  4. Needing to update the home e.g. fixtures and fittings (22%)
  5. Badly-done DIY (22%)

Mr Longmore added: “We are really excited to unveil Hoppy. Life is stressful enough without having to also worry about all the mounting jobs to do around the home. We hope the site will help simplify household tasks and admin – giving people back more of their valued leisure time.”
