The cause of the fire at the store in Alexandra Retail Park is still unknown. Humberside Fire and Rescue is currently investigating but is unable to go into too much detail at this stage.

UPDATE: Matalan has released a statement regarding the fire. It reads: "Following the fire at its Grimsby store, Matalan thanks the fire brigade and emergency services for their efficient and professional response and for their continued support.
"Matalan would also like to thank all members of its store staff for their bravery and patience. Matalan has been in consultation with every member of its store staff since the fire in order to ensure a clear line of communication. The company will endeavour to accommodate all employees by relocating staff to nearby stores in Scunthorpe, Hull and Lincoln until the Grimsby store is re-opened. Members of staff who are relocated will have travel costs covered.
"Matalan regrets the inconvenience caused to its valued customers and is working on a strategy to maintain customer service levels whilst the store is refurbished. In the short term, customers wishing to continue to shop with Matalan are able to shop online, or can find the location of their nearest alternative Matalan store on the Matalan web site.
"Matalan will keep all stakeholders updated with any further developments and will endeavour to re-open the store for business as soon as is practicable."
The findings of the investigation into the blaze are set to be released soon.
