Former Carpetright boss joins Topps Tiles

Poundland chairman and former Carpetright chief executive Darren Shapland is taking on the role of non-executive chairman at Topps Tiles, the retailer said today.

Mr Shapland will succeed chairman Michael Jack, who has served on the Topps board since 1999, but will be retiring in March.

With over 25 years of retail and public company experience under his belt, Mr Shapland has held senior financial and operational positions within Kingfisher, The Burton Group and Arcadia. He was chief financial officer at Sainsbury's between 2005 and 2010 before being appointed group development director. He has also served as non-executive chairman of Sainsbury's Bank and was chief executive of Carpetright from 2012-2013.

He is currently chairman of Poundland Group and Maplin Electronics, as well as non-executive director and chairman of the Audit Committee at Ladbrokes and Wolseley.
