DIY Week's Colin Petty in charity skydive

Published: 10 September 2012
DIY Week's special projects consultant Colin Petty is raising money for the Rainy Day Trust, the housewares and home improvement charity - by throwing himself out of a plane.
He is one of a group of volunteers taking part in the annual Rainy Day Trust parachute jump at the Army's parachute training centre at Netheravon in Wiltshire on Sunday September 16. Another volunteer is his wife Nina - neither of them have done a jump before.

Each jumper is trying to raise £1,000 in sponsorship - a figure which Colin has already passed, thanks to generous donations from colleagues in the DIY and housewares industry. "But why stop there?" he says. "The Rainy Day Trust does some terrific work helping people who have spent much of their lives in this industry, and who now need a helping hand. I want to raise as much as I possibly can."

To sponsor Colin's jump, just log onto his Just Giving page. "Donating is both quick and painless - as I hope the descent will be," he says.
