The move is part of a restructuring programme following the company's purchase from Akzo Nobel by private equity group Endless.

It follows the recent appointment of Mike Polkinghorn, formerly vice president operations at Ronseal and Sherwin Williams, to the position of production and logistics director.

Company chairman Graham Hallworth said: "We recognised that Liz was uniquely qualified for this key position and we're delighted to welcome her to the board.

"Her wealth of experience and expertise will be invaluable as we refocus our attention on our brands."
