B&Q staff cycle 240 miles for Children in Need

Published: 1 October 2012
B&Q colleagues have spent the weekend taking part in a 240 mile cycle ride from B&Q House in Hampshire via Kingfisher HQ in London Paddington to Castorama in Lille, France.

Raising money for BBC Children in Need, 15 cyclists took on the challenge, including those from B&Q head office, Kingfisher employees, colleagues from Castorama, Brico depot and even B&Q's sustainability partner BioRegional. They were also joined by Children in Need mascot Pudsey.

The aim is to raise more than £6,000, and several of the retailer's top bosses got in the saddle to help, including directors of corporate social responsibility Matt Sexton (B&Q) and Nick Folland (Kingfisher). B&Q director of logistics Rick Jones and Mike Hawes, director of talent, resourcing and development, also got involved.

Matt Sexton said: "This year we're aiming to surpass last year's fundraising total with the help of our charity commute. Although many of us cycle to work, cycling over 250 miles in under four days is no mean feat and we hope that supporters along the way will dig deep and donate to help B&Q smash the target of £6,000. We've even got Pudsey as our mascot to cheer us on which will help boost morale along the way."
