B&Q announces new commercial director

Published: 22 January 2014
Darren Blackhurst has been appointed as the new commercial director for B&Q.
Mr Blackhurst has more than 25 years' experience working for major retailers; he was previously ceo of Matalan, group trading director at Asda before that and he spent 18 years in senior roles at Tesco prior to that.

This comes after the appointment of B&Q's new ceo, Kevin O'Byrne, back in October and his plans to strengthen the management team and simplify the senior structure. This has included the hiring of Chris Moss and Steve Willett since then.

The role of commercial director had previously been split between Ian Herrett and Ebru Sayilan, but it is reported that they are being offered opportunities within B&Q's wider parent company Kingfisher.

Mr O'Byrne said: "I am pleased to welcome Darren to the B&Q management team. He has extensive UK and international commercial experience and is a strong leader. He will be a very good addition to the B&Q team."
