Valspar world-first delivers tartan paint

Published: 1 April 2015

Designers at Valspar are set to make tartan paint possible as it prepares to launch the world's first ever Tartan Roller and paint collection.

Valspar world-first delivers tartan paint

Developed following a surge in demand for tartan themed interiors, the battery-operated roller features a removable paint cartridge with separate chambers, designed to house enough paint to cover a feature wall. For larger surface areas, external tubes can be attached to each chamber to draw paint direct from the tin.

A single button activates the paint, allowing it to flow through the handle and into the roller, and a spirit level built into the handle acts as a guide to ensure lines are straight. With a number of different tartans available, from Royal Stewart to the MacIver pattern, any design can be achieved by simply swapping the roller head.

The roller works with the Valspar's specially-designed paint collection, which features ground-breaking pigments and resins that do not intermix once paint is applied to the wall. Once the paint reaches the roller, breakthrough technology disperses it to specific areas where it is required.

Valspar Europe product manager Scott Macdonald, commented: "Being from Scotland, I am incredibly proud to be involved in such a pioneering project that is set to change the face of interiors across the world.

"There's been a lot of trial and error, but we think we've finally managed to crack it with the unique roller and innovative paint combination."

The Valspar Tartan Roller and paint collection concepts are being trialled, and if successful will be launched at B&Q stores nationwide, with the roller set to retail at £37.99.

Just incase anyone was fooled by this, check the date of the story. April Fools!
