Topps Tiles announced this morning that Barry Bester has retired as non-exec chairman and a director of the company with immediate effect.
The firm's senior non-exec director Michael Jack succeeds Mr Bester, who was a founder shareholder and has been a director of Topps Tiles since 1984.
Commenting on his decision to step down, Mr Bester, who is 53, said: "I have chosen to resign as chairman of Topps Tiles after a wonderful 26 years with the business, as I have been spending an increasing amount of my time on my other private business interests. I offer my best wishes to my successor Michael Jack, with whom I have worked for many years."
Mr Jack joined the Tops board in 1999 and is also currently a Privy Councillor and chair of the recently formed Office of Tax Simplification in the Treasury. He said: "For me to have been chosen by the board to succeed Barry Bester as its chairman is a very great honour."
