Police investigate theft, as Dobbies also announces downsized plans for Carlisle centre, which are more "appropriate" in the current economic climate.
Two unusual wire statues have been stolen from Dobbies Garden Centre in Shepton Mallet. The items are believed to have been taken at some point between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

The statues, which are made from steel wire and shaped like a butterfly and dragonfly were displayed at the entrance to the centre on Mendip Way.

Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for information.

Meanwhile Dobbies has downsized its plans for a new garden centre in Carlisle. The Tesco-owned chain received the go-ahead for a 6,000sq m centre last month but has since submitted new plans for a smaller site. The new plans propose the construction of a centre half the size of the original at a cost of £7.5m compared with the initial £10m.

Dobbies said that it feels the new 3,000sq m site is more "appropriate", given the current economic climate.

A further change to the building's construction will see the centre constructed entirely out of timber.
