Footfall increased just 0.3% on the same weekend last year due to shoppers choosing not to venture out in the bad weather. Retail parks, on the other hand, saw an increase of 5.5% in visitor numbers, and shopping centres saw modest growth of 0.4%.

The beautiful Spring weather on Good Friday brought a great start to the weekend with numbers up 16.4% on the high street. Shopping centres saw numbers rise 2% and retail parks up 0.6%.

However, the overall effects of Storm Katie saw high street footfall slump 1.8% compared with the same weekend last year, with Saturday seeing a dramatic decline of -11.8% as the country was ravaged by bad weather. Greater London was affected the worst, with a -4.2% drop, while Scotland, Ireland and the South West all saw sight increases.

The East Midlands saw the biggest increase in shopping centre footfall over the weekend, up 9.8% on last year.
