Smart Garden opens new hub and makes the FT 1,000

Published: 17 May 2018 - Fiona Garcia

Following last month’s listing in the Financial Times as one of the fastest- growing companies in Europe, Smart Garden Products announces it has opened its new 250,000sq ft warehouse in Peterborough.

Smart Garden was delighted to be named in the FT 1000, last month, in a special report listing the European companies that have achieved the highest percentage growth in revenues between 2013 and 2016.

Along with 156 other companies from the United Kingdom, Smart Garden Products is the only UK company representing the Personal and Household Goods sector.  With an annual compound growth rate of 36.5%, an absolute revenue growth of 154%, and a revenue in 2016 of over £30m, the company was ranked 953 out of the 1,000 European companies.

Managing director Jonathan Stobart said: “This is an extraordinary achievement, particularly when set against the backdrop of economic uncertainty and Brexit. However, we have always set our sights high, giving ourselves demanding targets to meet.  We have not only achieved these but exceeded even our most optimistic expectations”.

Hot on the heels of this achievement, Smart Garden announced this week that its new Eureka hub warehouse in Peterborough is now fully operational.

Mr Stobart added: “With all this extra space at our disposal and continued growth, we decided to increase our stocks levels by 50% over 2017 to around £50million at retail prices.”

“Following a year of detailed planning, seeing our new Eureka hub in full swing is very gratifying. The Smart ‘Human Dynamos’ that run it, led by Gary Ackers and Todd Starnes, have excelled themselves. Our operating systems are working well and there seems to be no limit to the volume of goods and orders we can now receive, store, pick and despatch each day.”
