Searchlight Electric marks 70 years in business

Published: 8 April 2015
Searchlight Electric is this year celebrating its 70th anniversary as a supplier of decorative lighting to specialist lighting retailers, multi-national chains and distributor partners across the world.
Captain Sidney Hamburger started Searchlight In 1945 after being discharged from the army, as a one-man wholesale electric business in a tiny office in the cellar of 1B Cooper Street, Salford.

Today, the company employs 200 people and operates from 120,000sq ft Manchester offices and distribution centre. It stocks over 3,000 products and has one of the largest product showrooms in Europe.

Searchlight remains a privately-owned business, now in the third generation of the Hamburger family.

"The 70-year anniversary is a tremendous milestone for Searchlight as we look back on our wonderful heritage and accomplishments," said chairman Herzl Hamburger. "Many of our employees have been with the company for over 30 years and deliver incredible service to our customers."
