Householders will be able to return up to 10 cans of paint during a single visit throughout the Kick Out The Can campaign.

The surplus paint will be reprocessed by social enterprise company Nimtech and then donated to community projects. In return for their donation customers will receive a 20% discount to use until July 31.

Crown says that there is around 54 million litres of unused paint hiding in sheds, cupboards and garages in the UK.

The leftover plastic and metal cans will also be recycled.

Sustainability manager for Crown Decorating Centres, Mark Lloyd said: "Last year, Kick Out The Can was a huge success.

"We teamed up with Climate Week to encourage recycling and worked in partnership with Groundwork to ensure the re-processed paint was distributed to some excellent projects such as community gardens, youth centres and social housing apprenticeship schemes.

"Householders showed us that they valued the opportunity to clear out surplus paint while also making a positive contribution to communities across the country simply through the numbers who took part in the scheme - with 5,000 tins being brought back across the Crown Decorating Centres network."
