Department store voted the nation's top retailer for the third consecutive year in a survey of 6,000 people.
John Lewis department has been voted Britain's favourite retailer in a poll of more than 6,000 shoppers. The survey, published today by retail analysts Verdict Research, ranks John Lewis first for customer satisfaction.

The retailer has been ranked either first or second in the survey every year since it started in 2000, bagging the top spot seven times in 10 years.

Customers were asked to rate high street shops on a number of key criteria: range, price, convenience, quality, service, ambience, facilities and layout. John Lewis also came top in the homewares and electricals sectors.

John Lewis managing director Andy Street said: 'It is extremely rewarding for John Lewis to continue to be the UK's favourite retailer. During the past twelve months Partners have worked very hard to deliver the service that our customers expect. This year is likely to see a long, slow recovery, therefore it is even more important that we continue to provide customers with inspiring products, great value and exceptional service.'

Verdict consulting director Neil Saunders explained: "'The recession has made consumers think more carefully about where they spend their money and part of that has been questioning the value they get from retailers.
"John Lewis has not been found wanting. It simply delivers on every level: an excellent choice of products, fair pricing, served in an attractive environment with staff who truly believe in the concept of good service. "

John Lewis has seen record-breaking figures over recent weeks, exceeding the £100m milestone in its first week of clearance with a 29% sales increase and reporting its best-ever Christmas this year, with sales up 15.8% on 2008.
