A North Yorkshire garden centre is looking forward to a boost in business as it prepares to open a new extension.
The family-run Steam and Moorland Garden and Machinery Centre in Pickering is building a 7,200sq ft extension which will house new retail space, visitor toilets and a new 150-seat café to replace the existing 40-cover facility.
The garden centre was established in 2001 by husband and wife Charles and Bernadette Hopkinson and currently employs around 25 full and part-time staff, but a further 10 jobs will be created when the new café and retail area are operational. The new extension is expected to be open in time for Easter.
The project is costing around £650,000 to build, of which the owners have put up £200,000 with Yorkshire Bank providing a loan for the remaining £450,000.
