Homes were evacuated and eight fire engines rushed to the scene of Gravesend DIY store Start to Finish after it went up in flames last night.
The fire and rescue service was called at around 8.35pm, with local residents reportedly fearing an explosion due to the shop's stock of paint and gas. The two-storey building, which incorporated accommodation above the shop, was left severely damaged with its roof caved in.

Cars parked nearby are said to be covered in ash this morning and firefighters are reportedly still at the scene. Wrotham Road is expected to remain closed for the rest of the morning.

Local press reports suggest police are treating the fire as suspicious.

Kent fire and rescue incident commander Stuart Skilton said: "The fire was severe and had developed rapidly due to the combustible stock in the shop. Firefighters have been working hard, using BA equipment and a height vehicle to get the fire under control."

No one is reported to have been hurt in the blaze.
