The brothers, who have more than doubled their combined fortune in a year, from £487m to £1.1bn, are named as the sixth richest people in the North West of England in the Sunday Times Rich List, climbing seven places since last year. Nationally, the Arora brothers scored 73rd, up from 183 last year.

B&M isn't the only discount retailer whose owners scored high in this year's list, TJ Morris (trading as Home Bargains) owner Tom Morris rose from eighth to fourth in the North West, and scored 62nd overall, climbing from 136, with assets valued at £1.2bn.

The calculations are based on identifiable wealth, including land, property, other assets and shares in publicly quoted companies. The full list will be published this Sunday (April 21).

Please install air conditioning in your stores. For the second year running, I am genuinely worried about the health of your staff working in my local store. I was perspiring after just 10 to 15 minutes shopping, gasping to be outside. I can't imagine what it is like to have to experience that oppressive environment all day, every day. I complained in person to the management last year, because one of the female staff was pregnant. It really is about time you provided acceptable working conditions during these heat spells.

Absolutely brilliant effort to Robin and his brothers to come so far forward at this time of recession. Good wishes to them to prosper and act as a positive incentive to us all
