South Devon-based business Trago Mills will open its £10m development, which incorporates a new glassed garden centre and park to the public on Saturday.

The impressive 140,000 sq ft site at Newton Abbot will feature a mock beach complete with wave machine, as well as themed gardens, a ravine, boardwalks, colonnades and as many as 15 other water features.

Owner Bruce Robertson has even introduced a drive-through section where customers can select bulky goods and have them loaded straight into their vehicles.

"If you can have a drive-through restaurant, why not a drive-through garden centre?", Mr Robertson told The Herald Express.

He also confirmed that the site will create up to 35 new jobs for the local area, not taking into account the new café, which is still planned for the centre.

The development has taken eight years to come to fruition with disputes over planning permission, before then local government minister Ruth Kelly gave the project the go-ahead in 2006.

Mr Robertson, who believes the development has potential to achieve an additional £5.5m in turnover said: "It has been a long time coming but it has surpassed my expectations."

As part of the grand opening on Saturday, around 1,000 balloons will be released, each with gift vouchers attached ranging from £20 to £50.
