Reports this morning suggest Plasplugs may be in trouble after running into financial difficulties.
No one at the firm was this morning answering phones at its headquarters in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.

Diyweek.net was also contacted this morning by businesses that have been unable to get hold of anyone at plasplugs.

A sign the company may be in difficulties is Plasplugs was due to file its accounts at the end of July 2008 but has not yet done so.

The company also suffered a blow in January this year when former sales and marketing director Paul Boyce joined its main rival as chief executive officer of European operations for QEP.

It's also believed the firm lost a major contract with Homebase and has been struggling ever since with recent staff cuts.

Although unconfirmed, there is speculation the company may finish trading on Friday of this week.

Plasplugs was founded by Stuart Turner in 1973 after he invented the first plastic fixing which also accepted four different screw sizes, the company is still run by the Turners.
