South West retailer The Range saw turnover shoot up by 20% to £296.7m for the 52 weeks ending January 29, 2013.

Operating profit also bucked the recession trend, increasing by just over 27% to reach £26.2m. Gross profit, meanwhile, grew by 25% to £130m, while pre-tax profit also pulled in a triumphant increase of 28%, resulting in a balance of just under £26m.

The windfall has meant managing director Chris Dawson climbed 77 spaces in the Sunday Times Rich List, his £585m fortune making him the 153rd richest person in the country and the seventh richest person in the South West.
