The Sutton Coldfield branch of Screwfix enjoyed some time in the spotlight last week, providing the venue for a lively debate on BBC Breakfast about current issues facing retailers.

BBC business reporter Dominic Laurie presented live from the store on May 7, with presenters Bill Turnball and Susanna Reid joining the debate from the BBC studio. The programme also included an interview with Screwfix chief executive Andrew Livingston.

The feature centered around the question of why some retailers who originated as catalogue or online stores, are investing in bricks and mortar expansion.

As a business which began life as a catalogue back in 1979 and only opened its first store eight years ago when it was taken over by Kingfisher, Screwfix proved an apt case study for the feature. The retailer now operates from almost 300 stores across the UK.

It was an extra early start for the staff at the Sutton Coldfield branch, who normally open the store at 7am every weekday.
