Leading indoor plant pot manufacturer, Scheurich GmbH & Co KG has received backing from German private investors, the Bavaria Industries Group AG (Baikap) to acquire  Deroma, the world‘s leader in terracotta pottery. The company, located in the North of Italy, is likely to be taken over before the end of the year.

Following a major restructuring programme, Deroma which employees 400 people globally, is showing solid growth and has achieved a turnover of 70million euros. It has subsiduaries in France, Spain and North America, as well as sales offices in Great Britain and Hong Kong. After the transfer, Deroma will be managed independently with its own management team. The head office will remain in Malo and all employees will be kept on.

The deal is big news for Scheurich and will help further its move into outdoor lines. The family-run business was established in 1928 as a ceramics producer and has grown to become the market leader for indoor-pots and accessories for flowers and plants in Europe. In 2012 it launched plastic outdoor containers but the complementary range of Deroma’s terracotta lines will help to enhance its outdoor offer further.

Meanwhile, Baikap is a Munich-based, family-run holding that exclusively focuses on investments in middle-sized enterprises. Baikap will be the majority shareholder once the deal has completed later this year.

Scheurich owner Peter Baumann said of the deal, which is subject to approval: “Deroma as the market leader in the outdoor market and Scheurich as the leader in the indoor market complement one another perfectly and will use synergies particularly in the development of international markets that benefit their customers“.
