Red Rose blames 'severe financial difficulties' for closure

Published: 11 March 2010
Bournemouth-based manufacturer and distributor Red Rose Cookware ceased trading this week.
As reported on our sister site Housewareslive.net, the company got into severe financial trouble and will enter into formal liquidation within two to three weeks.

A former employee of Red Rose, who did not wish to be named, told HousewaresLive.net that the company stopped doing business on Tuesday. He said that he and the firm's other seven employees had made been redundant, and that he had been paid only to the end of January.

He said that managing director Paul Threse had advised him in a letter that owing to "severe financial difficulties the company must cease to trade".

Diyweek.net understands that the company had been experiencing cash flow problems, which led to its being unable to retrieve stock from the port.

Red Rose Cookware was a family firm started over 30 years ago by Paul Threse's father. It supplied a wide range of non-stick, enamel, stainless steel and aluminium cookware, along with bins and storageware.

Paul Threse was unavailable for comment.

This is really sad. I have to say that the pans I have bought and am still using are second to none. I discovered that the company has closed as I was searching for a gift for a friend - a 30cm sautee/fry pan like the one I use.

Took pans back to The Range to ask for a refund
because the base of pans I bought 2 years ago
are separated from the actual pan. Range told me to get in touch with Red Rose, only to find that they have ceased trading.

I is with much regret that I find that my lone Red Rose Pot will remain alone on the shelf. Red Rose is quality and affordable, and I only hope to be able to locate another piece at some liquidation store in the future. What a loss.........

Only last week I discovered Red Rose Cookware (cast aluminium pans) and was delighted to discover such quality. Having now used the cookware I can only class it as sheer quality so it was with great regret that I read the above article about the closure of the manufacturing company. We need more not less of this type of company.
