Now in its second year, the Yale
supported initiative is designed to create awareness around home security
across the UK. It will run throughout October, featuring a series of hints and
tips to highlight the ways consumers can keep their homes, families and
possessions safe during the dark nights.
The campaign will feature four weekly
themes, each focusing on a different aspect of home security, and is designed
to provide support for retailers by creating demand from consumers based on advice
given via a dedicated microsite, social media and marketing activities.
Throughout the month, consumers will
learn how to ensure their door and window security is up to standard, how to
protect their valuables "" both in and outside the home, and what the future
holds for home security, including the evolution of the 'Smart Home' and a look
at some of the latest security gadgets.
David Herbert, Head of Marketing for
Yale, said: "Statistically, domestic burglaries increase by around 20% during
the darker months, making it a peak time for sales of home security products.
National Home Security Month is designed to help retailers take advantage of
this, highlighting the importance of keeping properties and valuables safe to
help drive consumer demand.
"National Home Security Month 2013 was
a huge success, attracting backing from 36 supporters including major DIY
retailers, charities and industry bodies. We're looking forward to working with
retailers again this year to make National Home Security Month bigger and
better than ever."
