Stax radio ad gains acclaim

DIY wholesaler, Stax Trade Centres, has gained media acclaim recently with their radio campaign advert, by achieving the ‘Highly Commended’ status at the 2009-2010 VOX Awards (Valuable Acknowledgement of Creative Excellence).

The ad, which parodies the 70s cult classic film, Shaft, was a hit with the VOX judges, having narrowly missed out on the top accolade under the category of Best Retail Goods Radio Advert.

Running over 3 months on Talk Sport, Magic and Key 103 Manchester, the advert was successful in raising the profile of Stax in the North of England. The advert was part of a wider multi-channel marketing campaign focused around the opening of the new Manchester branch – with the Stax business as a whole receiving a boost in footfall and sales as a direct result.

Stax Joint Managing Director, David Hibbert commented,
“We were particularly pleased with the radio campaign we put together with the help of Talk Sport Creative and Workhouse Marketing. Having parodied the film Shaft, the line, ‘You won’t get Shafted at Stax’ worked particularly well. Stax is an honest, supportive wholesaler, so the creative dual meaning we came up with was extremely relevant to the way we operate.”
On the back of the success of the advert, Stax are planning to role out the radio campaign nationally in the summer – an exercise aimed at targeting the catchment area of the 2 more southerly branches in Birmingham and Bristol.
