Otter, which also has garden centres in Ottery St Mary, Plymouth, Wincanton and Lymington, has traded at Torquay for 30 years but is now vacating the site because of uncertainty over owner Babbacombe Holdings' plans for its future.

The Torquay operation will transfer on July 12 to Styles, which has just one garden centre, in Paignton, about four miles from Torquay and which is twice as big as Otter's Torquay outlet. The independent, family-run garden centre was founded in 1998.

Otter managing director Jacqui Taylor said: "We had this opportunity to move and our team are delighted because they have had a lot of uncertainty to deal with. All 11 will be coming with us and we are keeping the current staff at Styles garden centre."

However, DIY Week understands that Styles' former owner, John Hayden, has now left the business.
