Online marketplace set up for UK nurseries

Published: 8 March 2013
Newly-launched GreenPlantSwap will act as a new location-based online marketplace to help nurseries reach gardeners via the web without the hassle of setting up their own site.
Via the website, nurseries and growers can create their own self-serve web pages and list the plants they sell in the plant A-Z directory. The aim is to provide nurseries with the opportunity to list their stock with ease and reach a much wider community of gardeners in their local area and nationwide.

An annual membership service, GreenPlantSwap is built around a central database of more than 21,000 detailed plant species and varieties, with an availability map for each plant.

If successful, the site hopes to provide a plant-keen audience for member nurseries to sell to but gardeners can also sign up for membership to swap and sell plants grown at home.

One nursery member said of the new site: "It's a no brainer. We'll close our own website, save money and yet reach many more gardeners online."
