Source: DIY -

New 8m state-of-the-art garden centre at Braehead, Renfrewshire will open to the public on Friday, February 4.

Dobbies described the new centre as an integral part of its expansion plans, investing £8m in the site and creating 120 jobs.

Built with natural construction materials and other renewable energy systems, such as grey water recycling, the centre is one of Dobbies' most environmentally friendly stores in Scotland.

Chief executive James Barnes commented on the company's newest centre: "We are delighted to open our newest centre in Braehead which we believe is a concept for a new-generation of garden centres in the UK.

He added: "The Garden World is in keeping with our provenance and heritage as expert horticulturalists since 1865 whilst providing a modern destination for today's consumer. We're looking forward to returning to our roots and welcoming customers at Braehead, who we hope will love Dobbies and our new-state-of-the-art centre."

The Braehead centre will house a specialist pets and aquatics department, as well as an outdoor living and gifts section, a Farm Foodhall offering fresh local produce, and a restaurant.

Georgia Mearns from Houston Primary School will cut the ribbon to officially launch the new centre to the public, after winning a competition to design a secret garden, which will be created at her school with help from Dobbies plant experts.

Customers will be welcomed with a host of events this weekend, including gardening demonstrations, face painters and a jazz Sunday lunch.
