Flying Brands closes its last gardening business, making 16 redundancies
Hot on the heals of the sale of Gardening Direct last month, Flying Brands has closed its Growing and Live Despatch Business (GLD), making sixteen Jersey-based staff members redundant.

The closure followed a consultation period with all affected staff members, according to Flying Brands.

The sale of Flying Brands' online garden retailer Gardening Direct to Jersey Choice Marketing in July was the latest in a long line of disposals at the company. Flying Flowers and Flowers Direct were sold to Interflora in February, and Garden Bird Supplies, Garden Centre Online and Listen 2 were sold to the MBL Group in April.

Flying Brands said it was in advanced negotiations with Jersey Choice Ltd in connection with the proposed lease of the greenhouses and despatch centre at its Retreat Farm property, and anticipates that a lease will be concluded in the near future.

It added: "The board is continuing to consider strategic options for the company and for the maximisation of the long-term value of Retreat Farm and will update shareholders at its interim announcement."
