Knauf drywallers raise £5k for youth charity
A team of intrepid cyclists from Knauf Drywall recently completed a four-day, 237-mile cycle ride from its plant in Immingham near Hull to Sittingbourne where it has a factory.

Knauf drywallers raise £5k for youth charity

The 20-strong team raised more than £5,000 for youth charity the Lord's Taverners, but it didn't come easily, with driving rain and a facing wind proving a big handicap for most of the journey. Other obstacles included punctures, a collapsed back wheel, almost joining a motorway by mistake and plenty of 'fallings off', according to the team.

Knauf's works manager for Sittingbourne John Maude said: ""For the most part everyone enjoyed it, although I did manage to plan part of the route down a dirt track which cost me a beer for everyone! I have been gushing about the experience to everyone since, and I would encourage everyone to have a go at something like this again - it has been such a craic. And, of course, raising thousands of pounds to help underprivileged youngsters is no bad thing either!"

The Lord's Taverners focuses on youth cricket in disadvantaged areas, and sports and recreational equipment for young people with disabilities and special needs.

The charity's head of fundraising Tom Rigby said: "What a phenomenal effort both on the bikes and with the fundraising effort. With your help, we will continue to support aspiring youngsters and them the opportunity to start participating in sport."

Donations can still be made to the Knauf Drywall team through their Just Giving page.
