New publisher for DIY Week
DIY Week and diyweek.net are to have a new publisher: Jan Thorpe is taking over from Colin Petty

Colin Petty has decided that, after nearly 44 years as a journalist, editor and publisher, it's time for a change of pace. Effective today, June 15, he is relinquishing his role as publisher of the home improvement division at Faversham House after 11 years in the job, and moving to a new part-time role as special projects consultant to the division.

His new role will enable him to focus on developing new projects and supporting the DIY Week editorial and sales teams, as well as helping and advising with the DIY Week Awards.

Jan Thorpe is currently publisher of Faversham House's building products division, and will retain this role as well as taking over responsibility for DIY Week, Hardware & Garden Review, Builders Merchants Journal and Housewares.

Blimey, now I'm feeling really well, more mature! The magazine and the origins of the show as we know it today are intrinsically linked and go back to when the show was launched by the then named Hardware Trade Journal in 1985 under the stewardship of Chris Leonard-Morgan. HTJ rebranded into DIY Week and for as long as I can remember Colin you've been the face of the magazine and involved in the industry ever since.

Over this time we've seen many characters come and go - some are still here - the glory days and the not so glorious. We've had changes of ownership but, you've remained the constant.

We wish to thank you and DIY Week for its on-going support of the show over the past 19 years and wish you all the best in your more gentle way of life going forwards. We look forward to working with the next generation at DIY Week.

Will you be writing your own citation for your 'lifetime achievement' at the DIY Week Awards?....ooh er, and the winner is 'me'. Quel surprise!

Best wishes.

I agree fully with Andy's comments. A huge thank you Colin for your immense contribution over the years. You will be a hard act to follow! Even though my new role means I am not actively involved in the DIY sector I am still an avid reader of the DIY newsletter which keeps me up to date with the industry. Glad to hear that you will still be involved in supporting the editorial team Colin.

First of all, congratulations to Jan. I wish you good luck in your extended role.
Now on to Colin. I think a well deserved 'thank you' is in order from all areas of our markets for the hardwork, dedication and knowledge you have shown over the years to the 'industry'!
I hope that our industry honours system recognises this and suitable 'lifetime achievement' awards follow, whether from in house or dare I say it, competitor awards!
