John Lewis soundtrack tipped for Christmas number one
John Lewis' latest Christmas commercial debuted over the weekend, with the featured Elton John cover already at 10-1 odds of topping the charts this Christmas.
The commercial was shown in the windows of John Lewis' Ocford Street store on Friday but made bits TV debut on Saturday, November 13, during the X Factor ad break.
Bookmakers William Hill has already put odds of 10-1 on the ad's soundtrack - a cover of Elton John's 'Your Song' by Ellie Goulding - reaching the number one slot this Christmas.
The 60-second ad, filmed on location n Scotland, shows a series of vignettes of people buying presents for loved ones, as well as the difficulty of wrapping.
John Lewis managing director Andu Street commented; "I am really pleased, but not at all surprised, that William Hill has announced these odds. There will be huge competition for the chart-topping song this Christmas, and I believe Ellie Goulding's version of Your Song, which complements our advert so perfectly, will be a strong contender."
The ad has also done the trick in store, with sales of Christmas trees and decorations from John Lewis' Christmas Shop reaching unprecedented levels for this time of year, said the retailer.
It's not the first time a John Lewis ad soundtrack has proved popular. There was a fantastic reaction to Fyfe Dangerfield's cover of Billy Joel's 'Always a Woman to Me' on John Lewis' 'A lifelong commitment to fair prices' commercial earlier this year.
