The department store chain recorded another strong performance in the week ending September 18, with overall sales up 11.7% compared with the same period last year.

Home saw an 11.5% jump in sales for the week, with stand-out results in bed linen and lighting. John Lewis' H1 results reported market share growth in all three of its main categories - Home, fashion and EHT (electrical and home technology) – according to recent Verdict market share data. Home was found to have recovered well after a difficult year in 2009, with John Lewis reporting a 16.7% sales rise for the six-month period.

John Lewis managing director Andy Street commented: "The best statistic of the week was external confirmation of the increased market share achieved by the home directorate over the last year. This fits perfectly with our determination to 'Lead in Home'. Last week saw no let up in that progress, with another powerful Directorate result. Excellent returns were posted by furniture, textiles and gifts, with the stand-out results in bed linen and lighting, where creative and tasteful buying is really hitting the mark with our customers."

EHT also gave a good performance, up 6.9% for the week, with white goods selling well online. Overall, johnlewis.com recorded an impressive 38% jump in sales compared o the same seven-day period last year.
