Working closely with its main grow your own supplier Meredith's and the NVS, Focus included the NVS logo on all vegetable plant labels during the 2009 season.

Focus' senior buyer for gardening and head of horticulture Gerrard Smith said: "Growing your own has become a huge success over the last few years as consumers turn to the land to grow their own fruit and vegetables and I am delighted that Focus and its suppliers have been able to work together and make this donation to The National Vegetable Society."

With the successful sale of vegetable plants, Focus DIY and Meredith's were able to present the NVS with a cheque for £2,000.

NVS vice chairman and chairman of the northern branch Malcolm Evans said: "I am delighted to accept this cheque on behalf of the NVS and to continue the relationship throughout 2010. This can only continue the message of encouraging families to use the land and grow their own fruit and vegetables."
