Recession leads to department store closure
Rushden-based department store Peter Crisp is to close after 50 years with a loss of 35 jobs.
The store was shut earlier this week to prepare for a closing-down sale, which began yesterday (Wednesday November 18).
The store, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, originally opened in 1959 as an ironmongers and has grown to the large store with 15 departments it is today.
A message on the company website informs shoppers of the closing down sale and regret at having to close the store. It simply says: "It is with great sadness that after 50 years of service to our customers, that we will be closing our department store."

The Peter Crisp department store is closing down before Christmas but the Design Studio which designs and installs kitchens and bathrooms is continuing to trade unaffected from 25/27 Church Street Rushden.
