Crown Paints enters into partnership with I-PlasLeading paint manufacturer teams up with Halifax-based company to see its waste material transformed into recycled building material.
Waste packaging from Crown Paints will be recycled into i-plas - a recycled building material, which acts as a direct replacement for concrete, steel and wood.
Construction companies across the UK are said to be using the new material and National Rail is also developing i-plas to replace wooden sleepers.
Thousands of tonnes of waste packaging a year will be ground and used as raw material for i-plas.
The company I-plas hopes to set up partnerships with organisations in other sectors that create plastic waste.
Crown Paints sector support manager Vernon Kinrade said: "The construction industry is very conscious of the need for environmental responsibility and the sector will undoubtedly be a major catalyst in transforming the UK into a low carbon economy."
