B&Q recalls hammock over safety risk
DIY giant issues recall notice for wooden garden hammock after tests find water damage weakens its timber frame.
B&Q has identified a potential safety issue with the Barcelona Wooden Garden Hammock (barcode 05061525), which was on sale between March 2005 and September 2007.
The company said in a statement: "Despite rigorous quality control procedures, it has been brought to our attention that water damage can cause deterioration to the hammock's timber frame, weakening it over time and potentially causing the hammock to break whilst in use."
The product was first recalled in August 2008 but, as the summer months approach, B&Q is keen to remind customers of the recall notice.
The company added: "Anyone who owns a Barcelona Wooden Garden Hammock should immediately stop using it and return it to their nearest B&Q for a full refund on the purchase price.
"No other B&Q hammocks are affected by this announcement. People wishing to confirm they own the 'Barcelona Wooden Garden Hammock' should visit www.diy.com or call 0845 609 6688 (UK) or 1 800 946 327 (Ireland).
"B&Q would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience this recall may cause."
