Joyce Nicholson, who founded the company with her husband Harold in 1948, has retired from her position at Gordale Nurseries.
Director of the company until five years ago, Mrs Nicholson continued to have an active role in the business until the death of her husband in February this year, when she finally decided to call it a day.
She plans to spend her new-found free time writing her memoirs.
The nursery has a number of long-serving employees and is proud to announce that between them they have clocked up more than 150 years.
Jonathan Briers, garden centre manager has been with the company for 18 years, while Sylvia Evans, floristry, and duty manager Ruth Spendlove have both worked at Gordale for 25 years.
Petrol station manager Nicholas Such, head of sundries, David Tomlins and Claire Jones, houseplants, have each achieved an impressive 30 years service.
