Liverpool home improvement retailer wants to help shoppers unable to park near new premises planned for 2011.

Rapid Hardware is considering providing a porter service to shoppers who purchase bulky goods.

Porters will carry shopping to a customer's car in designated car parks at a pre-arranged time. Rapid also plans to offer extended delivery services.

The retailer announced the move after it emerged it is to move from its Renshaw Street premises to a new site (the John Lewis building - previously known as the George Henry Lee site until 2002) in 2011 creating 200 new jobs.

Group operations director Liz Jenkins told local papers the opportunity to move into an available John Lewis site was too good to miss, and gives Rapid the chance to develop Renshaw Street as well as move into the heart of the city.

The Renshaw street site is to be sold to developers working on Liverpool Vision, a city centre regeneration company.

John Lewis is moving into a Liverpool One, a regeneration project carrying new shops, homes, offices, and hotels.
