Maltings Timber builds diy department in new Doncaster outlet
Maltings Timber has developed a 9,000 sq ft sales area to include a diy and door department.

The decision was taken after significant interest from customers.

Steve Smith, md commented: "Being an independent merchant allows us flexibility to suit our customers requirements and needs, with continued enthusiasm from all our staff and continued growth of our customer base the sky is the limit for the company."

The new department follows the merchant's move to a new site on Churchill Road, Doncaster, eight years after a fire reduced the business to rubble.

After the devastating fire in 1999 Maltings timber was ready to throw in the towel, but thanks to further investment from company chairman Digby Butterfield and the commitment of Mr Smith said the “misfortune has been turned in to a roaring success”.

Along with the new departement, Maltings has upgraded computer software, and the site’s facilities to improve stock holding capacity and provide the ability to manufacture bespoke products at a 8,500 sq ft saw mill.

Mr Smith added: “With sales figures expected to exceed £2.5m for year 2007/2008 and the possibility of acquisition of a second site in the pipeline Maltings Timber is looking forward to a busy, but bright future.”
